I finished this book October 19, 2008. I loved Saroyan's writing when I was in middle school. My introduction to him was his short story `The Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze'. Saroyan grew up in California, of Armenian descent. From ages 3 to 8 he lived in an orphanage in Oakland. Most of the rest of his childhood was spent in Fresno, in our Central Valley.
